During our trip to Hickory Run State Park, we stayed at one of the campsites that led to the Shades of Death trail. We woke up in the morning, ate breakfast and decided to explore. We saw the name of this trail on a map and knew we had to check it out. When we booked the site, we didn’t realize how easy it was to get to it. Once we did, it was an awesome surprise!
Hickory Run State Park is located in the Western Poconos, about 30 minutes away from Jim Thorpe and 20 minutes outside of Lake Harmony/Split Rock area. Once we got past the 76 summer Friday traffic, the trip wasn’t bad at all. We were able to get to the park, check in and set up camp with plenty of light left. Hickory Run State Park is huge, at 15,990-acres, has two lakes and a huge boulder field.
In my previous post, I wrote about a trip we took to the Jim Thorpe area to ride the Lehigh Gorge Scenic bike train. During this trip, we stayed at an Airbnb located super close to Beltzville State Park. We needed to be out of the house by noon, so we packed up the car and headed to the nearby park to check it out.
